Desert dust finds its way inside even when the doors stay shut, and monsoon season makes it worse. Arizona State Parks notes that dust storms can build during the early monsoon, which the National Weather Service season runs from June 15 to September 30. Our interior clean starts at the top, with ceiling vents, fans and light covers, then works down through cabinets, counters, windows and blinds so dust does not fall onto surfaces that are already done.
Floors and fabrics come next. We vacuum carpet, rugs and upholstery thoroughly, including under cushions and along the slide-out floor edges where grit collects, and we pay attention to hair left behind by family members with four legs. Forest River's care schedule calls for vacuuming carpet after each trip and cleaning prefinished panels and wood with a wood cleaner, so we use the right product for each surface instead of one spray for everything.
Kitchens and bathrooms get a full wipe down, including the fridge exterior, cooktop, sink, shower and toilet. We also clean the vinyl seals around windows and doors, which Forest River says should be cleaned regularly and kept flexible. If your rig has been closed up all summer, this is a good way to open the season with a clean, fresh interior before you move back in.
